Holder was named to lead the squad in the five ODIs in South Africa starting on 16 January, after the three Tests and three er, a fast-bowling all-rounder, has played 21 ODIs since his debut in February 2013 in Australia. “We expect him to be around for a very long time,” said Clive Lloyd, the chairman of selectors. “He has a very good cricketing brain and has the makings of a very good leader. The selectors decided that now is the time to make the transition, and Jason will have people around him to help and guide him. Some might say it’s close to the time of next year’s Cricket World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, but we know that we have a good one-day team which can do very well.”Holder was 23 last month and his most recent ODI was the fourth in India in October, after which West Indies quit the tour in a contract dispute with the national board and players’ union. Bravo captained that team and was the figurehead in the players’ strike in India. He also was involved in resolving the dispute back in the Caribbean.
